IPL Skin Rejuvenation

IPL Skin Rejuvenation, also known as an IPL photofacial, uses pulses of light to reduce the appearance of pigmentation, sun damage, age spots, redness and broken capillaries. It can also support collagen production for firmer, smoother-looking skin.

How does IPL Skin Rejuvenation work?

IPL sends short pulses of light into the skin. The light is drawn to brown pigment and the red colour in small blood vessels.

For pigmentation, the light heats and breaks down the pigment. Treated spots may look darker at first, then move towards the skin’s surface and flake away over the following days.

For redness and broken capillaries, the light heats the targeted vessels. The body then gradually clears them, helping the redness become less visible.

The light energy can also encourage collagen production. Over a course of treatments, this may help the skin feel firmer and look smoother and more even.

IPL Skin Rejuvenation FAQs

A consultation is required before your first IPL treatment so Sangita can assess your skin tone and concerns, check that IPL is suitable and recommend the right treatment plan.

Use SPF 30 every day and avoid sun exposure for four weeks before treatment. Don’t use fake tan for one to two weeks beforehand. Shave any dark hair in the treatment area. If you get cold sores near the area, include this in your consultation.

Pigmented spots often need one to three treatments. Redness and broken capillaries may need three to four. Treatments are usually booked four weeks apart.

Results appear gradually after each appointment. The best visible results may take up to three weeks to appear after your final treatment.

Each pulse can feel like a quick, warm flick against the skin. Some areas feel more sensitive than others, but the feeling only lasts for a moment.

Unfortunately, IPL isn’t suitable for every skin tone. Because the light targets pigment, deeper skin tones can have a higher risk of burns or changes in skin colour. Sangita will confirm if your skin tone will suit the treatment before starting anything.

No. We don’t perform IPL Skin Rejuvenation during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

IPL may not be suitable for you if you have a tan, sunburn, an active skin infection or damaged skin. You’ll also need to avoid it if you have severe eczema or dermatitis in the area, take medication that causes light sensitivity, have used Roaccutane in the past six months, or have seizures caused by flashing light. Tattoos, permanent makeup or implants in the treatment area also need to be checked.

No. IPL Skin Rejuvenation targets pigmentation, redness and visible blood vessels. IPL Hair Removal uses different settings to target hair follicles.
