Regardless of skin colour, they are a significant issue because of their unattractive appearance and negative psychological and emotional impact, affecting the quality of life. Skin hyperpigmentation is caused by abnormal production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour, and is a consequence of uncontrolled, localized overproduction of melanin by the melanocytes causing irregular skin colourations and dark spots.Cosmelan can be used for all types of melanogenic lesions on all fitzpatricks.
What is Cosmelan?
Cosmelan is a programme for treating all types of hyperpigmentation.
Hyperpigmentation is a growing concern in all ethnic groups and skin phototypes. 90% of people of 50 years of age present with varying types of hyperpigmentation from Melasma, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, Sun induced pigmentation and genetic types of hyperpigmentation.
All of these different types of pigmentation are extremely difficult to treat and Cosmelan is a 7-month programme to finally correct and regulate the amount of melanin being produced, so we are no just treating the surface but finally treating the cause of the pigmentation at the source of the problem at the melanocyte.
What is it used for?
Cosmelan is used for the treatment of Melasma, Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation old and new, Solar/Senile lentigo, Ephelides (Freckles)
Who should not have Cosmelan?
Anyone who is pregnant or planning to get pregnant, breastfeeding. Any allergies to any of the components of the formulations. Have been on antibiotics, Isotretretinoin, hydroquinone. Bacterial, viral, fungal or herpes infections. Combining it with any chemical peels or hair removal techniques such as IPL or Laser.
What should I do before my treatment?
Be on a good skincare regime one month prior to starting this treatment is recommended but not essential. (Vitamin C and Vitamin A)
Are there any side effects?
Your therapist/nurse will advise you to take anti-histamines for the first 3-4 days to reduce the inflammatory process, this is a precautionary action only, but we have found this has been worthwhile for patients in the past.
In the first 12 to 48 hours you may experience some swelling and inflammation continue with fast skin repair as directed by your therapist/nurse and Hydra vital mask if skin is feeling very tight this may be left on the skin.
Your skin will peel after 3 days for approx. 3-5 days it is important not to pick or rub the dead skin but let it come off by itself. If it is feeling particularly uncomfortable apply one ampoule of proteoglycan and gently massage into the skin and apply hydra vital mask and leave on.
What are the rare side effects?
The inflammatory process has lasted a bit longer than normal, so it has taken longer to get to the next stage, however we still get great results.
What should I do after my Cosmelan treatment?
You must always make sure that you are on a product range that inhibits the action of the
Melanocyte. Vitamin C in the morning and Vitamin A at night is a must.
Avoid exposing your face to sunlight at all times and regular applications of SPF 30+ every day at regular intervals. Your therapist/ nurse will be able to advise you on what you should be doing in this regard. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Dermapen 4 Course
What’s stopping you from having the absolute best skin? Let us introduce you to Dermapen 4™!
This advanced, innovative microneedling technology targets fine lines and wrinkles, as well as acne, scars, lacklustre and sagging skin, pigmentation, enlarged pores, stretch marks and so much more!
Dermapen 4 is not only faster and safer than traditional microneedling devices, but it also gives optimal results! We are thrilled to present this revolutionary treatment to you here in Mount Eden.
Course package includes:
Dermapen 4 treatment × 2 sessions
LED light therapy × 1
Advance paramedical anti-ageing peel × 2
Mini dermapen home kit to take away
How does it work?
The innovative design of Dermapen 4’s needles enable them to create millions of micro channels into the skin stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, resurfacing, retexturing and overall renewing skin anywhere on the body.
We can treat areas which are hard to reach, such as around the eyes, eyelids, earlobes, neck, lips, nose, or larger areas such as the décolleté as well as your stomach and legs to target stretch marks.
Is the treatment painful?
Unlike traditional dermal rolling techniques, the Dermapen 4 is relatively comfortable thanks to its advanced technology and design. Depending on the area that is being treated and the depth of the treatment, there can be some slight discomfort during the procedure. Your therapist will explain it all.
How should I prepare my skin for Dermapen 4?
At Skinworks Clinic, we offer an initial consultation before your Dermapen 4 treatment. For optimal results, we’ll recommend an appropriate home care regime that encourages your skin to prepare and strengthen (especially for thin or delicate skin areas).
As the original, trusted leader of microneedling, DermapenWorld™ has collaborated with leading research and development laboratories and clinical experts to create Dp Dermaceuticals™. It’s the world’s first meso-infusion skincare range exclusively designed for microneedling procedures.
Continued use of Dp Dermaceuticals products for a period of 2-3 weeks before and after the Dermapen treatments is highly recommended.
How soon after filler/muscle relaxant injections can I have a Dermapen treatment?
While there is no clinical evidence that Dermapen treatments counteract with injectables, please let your clinician know if you have had an injectable treatment recently or if you are planning one soon. We will advise you on when to schedule your Dermapen 4 treatment based on this information.
How will it take before I see results?
It’s likely that you will see results straight after your first treatment. Longer lasting and more significant results will be noticeable after 3 to 6 treatments (2-8 weeks apart). The condition of your skin will continue to improve over the next 6-12 months after a course of treatments, especially if you combine it with our recommended after-care.
Is there any downtime?
Generally, no. However, it is possible that you experience some facial redness for 12-48 hours after a Dermapen treatment. Most people can return to their normal daily activities immediately after the treatment.
Application of Dp Dermaceuticals Cover Recover™ will seal and heal the skin and cover any redness, and your skin care professional will provide you with all the information you need about post-treatment aftercare and products.

LED Light Therapy Course
LED Light Therapy, or light emitting diode therapy, is a gentle non-invasive treatment that is especially beneficial for acne, sun damage, and a range of other skin problems such as psoriasis and rosacea. It also reduces the signs of aging including fine lines, wrinkles and age spots.
With this treatment, soothing wavelengths (or colours) of light are used to trigger the skin’s natural healing and repair processes. The skin uses this light as a source of energy to fuel the repair and rejuvenation of damaged cells, or, in the case of treating acne, kill bacteria.
LED Therapy can help reverse some of the signs of ageing, such as uneven skin tone and the energy stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, boosts circulation and accelerates tissue repair.
LED Light Therapy is designed to rejuvenate and improve the overall appearance of your skin. It’s a fantastic way to start strengthening your skin, even if you have sensitive skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. The treatment is safe for all skin types and leaves your skin more supple and visible radiant.
Fun fact: NASA originally developed LED lights for plant growth experiments in space.
You can Led Light Therapy to any other treatment at Skinworks Clinic or have it as a stand-alone procedure. After the initial consultation, your clinician will know which wavelength is right for you. Follow-up treatments may be recommended, and we may discuss the options during your visit.
